abstract Concentrations of chlorophyll-a (CHL), suspended matter (SM) and dissolved organic carbon (DOC) are derived from monthly averaged optical remote sensing data (SeaWIFS, MODIS and MERIS) with standard or regional algorithms. Net Primary Productivity (NPP) is derived from concentrations of CHL and (optionally) photosynthetic available radiation (PAR, from optical remote sensing data), mixed layer depth (MLD, from TOPAZ: modeling and assimilation system at NERSC), day length, etc. Several algorithms were used to estimate NPP.
